Most Human Resources Professionals in Canada require Professional Development credits to maintain their professional designation. Browse courses that meet your requirements, or choose one of our course packages, specially curated to contain all the hours and credits you need, in one place. The courses on LearnFormula may be counted towards professionally relevant, verifiable learning activities. It is the student's responsibility to validate whether an activity is an eligible educational activity for their professional development requirements based on their own learning needs.
Requirements
The Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) requires all designated members (CHRP, CHRL, CHRE) to complete 66.67 CPD Hours over a three-year cycle. The CPD cycle runs from June 1 to May 31, with logs due by May 31 in the year the cycle ends.
There is no annual minimum, but members are strongly encouraged to plan their activities annually to manage their learning effectively. CPD hours may be earned across multiple categories, including continuing education, leadership, instruction, significant work projects, and research or publication.
Eligible CPD categories include:
Accreditation & Course Eligibility
HRPA does not require CPD activities to be pre-approved. Activities that are not pre-approved may qualify if they further the member’s professional abilities as an HR practitioner.
A wide range of activities are acceptable, including seminars, workshops, mentoring, volunteering, teaching, research, publications, and significant HR projects. Social activities do not qualify for CPD credit.
Reporting, Record-Keeping & Auditing
Members are responsible for maintaining their CPD logs and submitting them every three years by May 31. The first CPD period begins on the date the designation is granted and may extend beyond three years to align with the triannual cycle.
Each year, HRPA audits approximately 3% of submitted logs. Members selected for audit will be required to provide documentation such as certificates, confirmation letters, or published materials. Failure to meet audit requirements can result in suspension. Members are advised to retain accurate records throughout the CPD cycle.
